1962 POLAR MANUFACTURING
THIS SLED WAS FOR SALE ON EBAY A WHILE AGO.
GREAT PIECE OF HISTORY.

This is among the rarest and hard to find Arctic Cats ever.

This snowmobile is a true, documented Polar 450.

Polar Manufacturing was the name that Edgar Hetteen named his new Thief River Falls MN snowmobile company when he first walked away from Polaris Industries and started again producing snowmobiles in the fall of 1961.

The first models were 1962 Polars. The very next year he changed the name of his company
to Arctic Enterprises.

The Serial number on this is stamped 625-30, indicating it was the 30th snowmobile off the assembly line of his new company. If you enjoy collecting very old Arctic Cats, there were only 29 made that are older than this one! I am not sure how many of them have survived either. Of the surving Polars, I have only seen a few model 200s, a few 500s and one 450 besides this one. This is rare. Condition: Has original paint that still has some shine, looks as if it has been stored indoors most of its life. Has some areas of paint flaking/surface rust, no rust through at all, anywhere. The rear power/engine platform is in excellent original condition. The original clutch guard and chain guards are both in place and in excellent condition.

The entire engine package/transmission/clutches/etc are all complete and original looking. It is missing the brake cable and some of the brake parts from inside the brake drum. The engine has good compression but no spark. I have removed the internal coil and have so far not been able to find a new one to put in it. The track is all complete and looks original, all idlers/sprockets/etc are in place and should be ready to run. The fuel tank is original and looks ok inside and out. The front half of the sled is in very above-average condition. There has been a piece of strap metal welded on each lower frame tube, could be removed if desired. Again, no rust holes in this at all. It looks like the steering wheel/shaft have been updated to the 1963 style, steering wheel in excellent condition. This updated steering shaft is partially obstucting the view of the serial number plate. I have looked carefully at the original serial number plate and it is in excellent condition. No dents in the back unit of this sled, just a few very light bumps in the front. The windshield frame has been updated to the more functional 1963 style, would be easy to fabricate the 1962 style windshield frame if desired. The skis are in very good condition, no rust through at all. The seats look original and are in very good condition, is two areas about the size of a fist where the top-layer of black fabric has peeled off from the fabric. The foam is not exposed, just the top layer of black vinyl peeled off. Even though this looks similar to a 1963 Model 450, there are many differences. This is the real deal, no bondo, no reproduced parts, etc. The decals are the best surving example of an actual Polar decal that I have seen to date.
