DECEMBER 24 - 2005
Hi David - Here is a back view of my two Mini Snowbugs.
The one on the left is a 1964 and the one on the right is a 1962-63, my first Snowbug.
They both have Hirth engines. The belt on the one on the right is tiny. Salsbury clutch. This model has no brake.
The Mini on the left has a brake. All Snowbugs came with a 26" wide track of various lengths.
Some had continuous grousers (early models), later had half cut in the middle of the track. Early models had magnesium drive sprockets of five, then six tooth.
In around 1968 they switched to a rubber six tooth drive sprocket. All Snowbugs had sliders for the track.
Starting in 1972 all Snowbugs were equiped with spring loaded sliders.
Another model was the Luvbug with a 34" track, side by side seating. Another model made was called the Snowpacker with three tracks in 1961-62.
two 26" tracks side by side were on the Snowpacker mostly found on some
ski hills or work crews of
Snowbugs were also available in fibreglass from the early sixties through the early seventies, but they were damaged easily.
motors used in Snowbugs were many. One had a pair of chainsaw motors in
it; a VW bettle motor;
Many variations of the body and ski shaft were used over the years of production.
Anytime I hear of one, I want to see it. Oh well, I guess I have the bug for these old machines.
THANKS MARTIN FOR THE GREAT PICTURES!
